At its Hamburg headquarters, Hydro Aluminium Deutschland GmbH is currently investing in a new recycling furnace (twin-chamber technology) with an annual capacity of 50 000 t. Up to 95% of the energy required for the primary production of aluminium can be saved thereby. The burner technology (regenerator) that is used makes for the efficient use of waste gas heat and reduces the smelting heat requirement to a minimum.
In addition to this, twin-chamber technology also lends itself to the environmentally friendly remelting of layered waste. The heat released when smouldering off the layers is predominantly used for the smelting process while at the same time respecting the most stringent air purity standards, and thereby further increases the energy efficiency ot the entire operation.
